From the shore of Bassenthwaite Lake, Barf looks unclimbable. Wainwright lists two routes from Bassenthwaite Lake, one difficult and one very difficult!
A simpler, and more enjoyable (IMHO), route it to combine an ascent of Barf with a day out in the Whinlatter Forest, visiting Lord's Seat and other fells in the area.
Barf from the path from Lord's Seat
On a misty day, this route is not easy to follow as the path snakes in and out of the heather. Best reserved for a good day!View more ›
Barf from the Whinlatter Forest
The steepness of Barf is apparent from the forest path.View more ›
Barf from the Summit of Dodd
The summit of Dodd gives great views of, not just Varf, but the whole of the North-Western fells.View more ›
